Is your child eligible for Suffolk County Council funded school travel?

Suffolk’s School Travel Policy has been amended, so it is important that you understand how this might affect your child’s eligibility for funded school travel from September 2019. To find out more visit www.suffolkonboard.com/schooltravel

If your child is eligible for funded school travel you now need to opt-in (apply) each year so they can receive it. The opt-in window for this year is open from 1 March 2019 to 31 May 2019. To find out more visit www.suffolk.gov.uk/transportform

Riverwalk Staff Well-Being Survey Results April 2019

Over April the staff at Riverwalk School were asked a range of wellbeing questions about their work and how they felt about it. The anonymous survey was in two forms:
An Online survey where statements were rated 1 – 5 and a paper survey where more open questions were asked. There was an aggregated response rate of 44%.
We have already had meetings with staff to feedback the results and discuss the issues raised such as dealing with staff shortages due to absence and improving our communication with each other within the school.

Staff survey responses indicated very clearly that although they felt their job to be both emotionally and physically very demanding they also felt it to be very rewarding with 92% saying they would recommend Riverwalk School as a place to work!

Overall the results were very positive with staff being satisfied with the way they are able to communicate with other people at the workplace, working together in a supportive and collaborative way, with training opportunities offered that are appropriate for the job.

Staff were satisfied that bullying and harassment are seen as unacceptable at work, and that complaints are always acted on. Now that we have settled into our lovely new building, it was not a surprise to read that staff were also very happy with the physical environment of their workplace.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff for taking part in the survey and for providing a clearer picture of what it is like to work at Riverwalk School.

Introducing 'Buddy' The Riverwalk Mascot

Buddy was designed and drawn by Frankie in Leopards class.

'Buddy enjoys eating green apples and salted popcorn.

Toy Story is his favourite film!

He likes to help people and loves everyone!'

Parent/Carer Survey Results 2019

Riverwalk would like to thank all the parents and carers (44% return rate) for taking part in this survey.  This is a massive increase on the 2016 parent/carer survey which had a return rate of 31.7%.

From the survey parents / carers feel their children like coming to school; they feel their children are safe and treated with respect. Teaching is good and there is effective communication between class teachers and parents.  Parents / carers are clear that they see Riverwalk as a school that is approachable and willing to listen to their concerns.

The full results and quotes from parents and carers can be found here.

Rebound Therapy

Skydive

Great fun was had on Tuesday 13th November when pupils tried out Rebound Therapy for the first time.  Rebound Therapy is used to facilitate movement, promote balance, promote an increase or decrease in muscle tone, promote relaxation, promote sensory integration, improve fitness and exercise tolerance, and to improve communication skills.
James Brooke started the fundraising drive for Rebound this time last year and, after he sadly died in May, a determined group of staff and parents continued with his mission.  Four staff have now undertaken Rebound Therapy training and we are hoping to train more as soon as possible.  If there are any parents who could volunteer to be ‘spotters’ either in school time or for a possible after-school club on Tuesdays, please contact school.
Next on the wish list is an outdoor sunken trampoline.  Look out for future fundraising events or contact school with any ideas of your own.
